How To Buy Fine Jewelry?

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Quality is the key to your purchase. How do you know what to look for in the quality respect? As an expert jeweler I look for the weight of the piece and it has to have someĀ  substance. I also like to see the setting of the diamonds on piece it has to be very clean and sharp. I make sure when I “loop” closely look at the jewelry piece the diamonds or the gemstones are set evenly not up and down or left and right the prongs must be straight not shifted to the left and to the right etc.. you get the point.

Always wear the jewelry first, sometimes looking at the piece through the showcase or even through the pictures it does not look the same. Pictures don’t give justice to the jewelery. So, try it on and feel it see how it feels on you is it very light or is it very heavy and so on. I hope this little advise was helpful.

When Your Jeweler is referring to Prong Setting What is he referring to?

He is referring to a tapered metal ledge that is usually heavier than a claw, rising from the base of a jewelry setting and used to hold a stone in position as needed. Depending on your stone, the prongs come in different sizes and shapes.
